A Challenging Profession

A driver is a valued member of any haulage, logistics or distribution company. They are the face of the company to the outside world, acting as an ambassador, a sales rep, a security guard and a problem solver. The image of the company is directly linked to driving behavior and vehicle performance.

Road transport has become a competitive industry. Due to expanding regulations, professional driving is a challenging profession. Drivers must continually undergo training to update the necessary licences and acquire new certificates required by legislation. The professional driver must fully understand sections of road traffic law that apply to their work, they must be compliant with working time directives, they must be fully familiar with the use of recording devices (tachograph) and reporting.

The role of the professional driver has become a complex one. Today’s professional driver has to deal with different kinds of issues in their daily work: loading and vehicle stability, checking procedures, passenger comfort, safe vehicle, safe driving and legal matters. They are charged with a wide range of responsibilities that protect the general public, the company they are driving for and the company that they are collecting from or delivering to. Professional drivers must have high driving and safety standards, and these must be maintained throughout their career.
